My great grand parents were from Jhelum. We have been hearing from my grand parents and then my parents about Jhelum. I have been trying to find more about Jhelum for a long time and did not find much but today I found this website.

So I thought I should say hi....

i'm doing genealogical research and i was wondering if anyone had heard of or was related to Qaim Din of Kantrily, Jhelum, Pakistan? i woud really appreciate it if any members had any information that they were willing to share. thanks in advance

Good to hear from you man. Well, all I know as of now is that we are originally from Jhelam. But I will ask my parents and other family members more about what they remember about our house in Jhelam...That would awesome if you can get me a picture !!

Well, I am originally based in Yamuna Nagar. A small town in Haryana and currently placed in California,USA working with a software company....happily married with 3 year old son. Cannot ask for more...

I talked to my dad and uncles and this is what I was able to find out....

They say that the place in Jhelam is called Model Colony where we used to live before partition. They told me that is was very close to the station at that time also at that time, this colony was very new, they were just build it. There were some 40 houses in there at that time.

We used to have a shop or something like that call "Pahuja Shoe Company" and also "Uttam Iron Syndicate". Sardar Uttam Singh Pahuja was my Great Grand Father.

I hope this will help you find my purkhon ka house and you will be able send me some pictures !!

If you cannot, please let me know I will if I can find more information for you that will help you pin point the house.

Yes, we have MODEL Coloney and its really near to Railway Station.
but the main thing is that now these days only 2,3 houses are left which are more then 40 year old. all others are demolished and re-constructed.

if you can pin point that how much its nearest to the Cross+ these days we call it Shandar Chowk (Cross).

Jhelum is a rainy area and due to heavy rains during moonsoon many old houses keep fellin down... and people now useto create new houses.
